Women’s Empowerment Summit

Organized ‘’Women’s Empowerment Summit’’ involved (323 women, 5 men) (38 disabled women) herdswomen and local women of Khovd Province, Mongolia. We collected disaggregated, anonymized data on climate change impact, as well as the living conditions and challenges faced rural women in Khovd Province. The Summit provided opportunities for participants from 13 ethnic groups from 16 sums’ (local communities) came together, share their local and traditional knowledge, and establish the basis for future collective action.
Completed the internationally-accredited Rabies Educator Certificate Training, and trained to play a life-saving role in their own communities.
Completed a Community Safeguarding Workshop, with resources to implement a basic Safeguarding plan in their own communities.
Completed a Sexual & Reproductive Health, Rights Training, developed understanding of menstrual cycles, establishing greater ownership of their bodies, along with knowledge on contraception and personal hygiene.
Completed an Introduction to Financial Literacy Training, strengthened their economic empowerment and taking a step towards further independence
Completed an Introductory session on Human Rights & Citizenship with a local partner, strengthening their understanding of local, national, and international rights
Completed a Training Session on Gender-based Violence delivered by a local partner, how to combat it.
Had the opportunity to share knowledge and experience of local impacts of climate change and environmental policy in Mongolia
Contributed to the collection of disaggregated qualitative data on climate change impact on rural communities (subject to data protection and privacy policies)
Shared knowledge, ideas, and best practice between different ethnic groups
Built capacity in their own communities for future event planning and activities
Created networks of mutually-supportive groups of local women
During the summit time, 12 victims of domestic violence approached us, 4 of them were serious, heavy cases. We provided mediation services, victim protection services, and social welfare services for these 12 women victims.  5 active men participated in our Summit, we are trying to improve men’s participation for decreasing gender based violence and domestic violence. 5 men created small Club, they are continuing cooperation with our NGO to improve men’s participation.
Facilitating this project helped our NGO gain more experience organizing activities among indigenous women and reach more vulnerable groups of women. The lessons learned from this project will help our organization facilitate more successful activities among indigenous women who live in western region of Mongolia in the future.
